Let's go for a longer version of the Henry Cowell hike! This one covers a bit over 7 miles, with moderate hills and a variety of environments, from redwoods to knee-deep water. Yes, it's one of those river-crossing hikes, so break out the shorts and amphibious footwear! We'll head out along the Pipeline Road, stopping for lunch somewhere along the way (possibly the Overlook Bench), then down the Buckeye trail, crossing the river (no bridges) a few times before arriving at Big Rock Hole for lounging and an opportunity for swimming (not mandatory). As usual, bring water, lunch, and carpool/park entrance money. Quick-drying clothes might be a good idea, too. Expect lunch to be on the late side (possibly 1:30), so consider having a late breakfast. Meet at carpool point #8.
Directions to LPSS carpool point #8 (Homestead Square in Cupertino): Exit 280 onto Saratoga-Sunnyvale Rd (De Anza Blvd) towards Sunnyvale (north). First left on Homestead. Shopping center is on left side. Pass RiteAid and the PW Market, and continue to the north end of the shopping center. Park along the Homestead side, near Carl's Jr.
