Eric Wilner: upcoming events

(Loma Prieta Sierra Singles: http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/lpss)

Contrary to its name, Arroyo Seco reportedly has water in the river year-round, and is popular with the white-water rafting crowd. Located in the Monterey district of Los Padres National Forest, just west of Greenfield, it's rumored to be a good area for outings in spring (wildflower hikes) and summer (river activities). The goal of this all-day outing is to check out the area, find the trailheads, check out a couple of trails, pick up any information that's available at the ranger station, and have some fun and exercise. Expect to hike somewhere between 7 and 12 miles, in varied terrain. Part of the route will be along creeks, and there will almost certainly be the opportunity for swimming. Bring lunch, water, sturdy footwear (possibly amphibious), sun protection, carpool money, a sense of adventure, an extra layer in case it turns cool, and perhaps a swimsuit, towel, and change of clothes. We should be getting back to the carpool point around 6, unless we decide to stop for dinner on the way home. Meet at carpool point #3.
The forecast for Greenfield calls for a high of 82 this Sunday.

Directions to LPSS carpool point #3 (Santa Clara County parking lot): Corner of 1st and Hedding, San Jose. Exit 101 or 880 onto 1st Street south in San Jose. Turn right at Hedding, and right again into the parking lot. Don't be too worried about the "no public parking" signs; they don't seem to apply on weekends.

Sorry, you've missed this one, and there are no future instances on the schedule yet.
