I'm scheduled to lead a hike all the way up Mission Peak at the next full Moon, and I'm not altogether in practice. Accordingly, I'll be making a practice run -- er, slog -- to see if I can really make it to the top. It's 3 miles up and 3 miles down, and the "up" and "down" parts are to be taken seriously. Bring plenty of water, and be prepared for heat going up, and possible cold wind at the top. Hiking boots are definitely recommended. Meet at Mission Peak.
Directions to Mission Peak Regional Preserve in Fremont: Take 880 north to Mission Blvd exit; take Mission about 1.5 miles to the third light. Just beyond the third light, turn right on Stanford Ave at the sign that says "Mission Peak Regional Preserve." This road ends at the parking lot. Important: the parking area is now paved. All un-paved areas, now matter how parkable they look, are off limits. There is abundant overflow parking along Vineyard Ave., the first public sidestreet as you head back down Stanford.
