Thu Jul 4, 2002 7:30 PM Walk to Fireworks in Mountain View
(Loma Prieta Sierra Singles: http://lomaprieta.sierraclub.org/lpss)

Come watch the Shoreline fireworks from close up! We'll set out from a spot in Mountain View where there's parking available, then walk to Shoreline before the crowds gather, claim a good viewing spot, and hang around socializing and snacking while we wait for darkness and the beginning of the fireworks. The walk will be about 3 miles each way, almost completely flat, at a moderate pace. Bring goodies to share, maybe a tarp or blanket to lie on, a flashlight for returning after dark, and extra layers in case it gets cold. If you want to bring a lawn chair, just remember -- you'll have to lug it all that way! We should return around 11. Directions: Meet at Whisman Park on Easy Street in Mountain View. From 101 take the Ellis St. exit and go south to East Middlefield. Turn right on Middlefield, go about 0.7 mile, and turn right onto Easy. Whisman Park is on the left.
According to my notes from past years, the actual fireworks usually start right around 9:45 PM. The early start time for this event allow us to walk to the golf course and claim a good patch of grass for the group before the mob arrives.
For those arriving here via Google: yes, this event is open to the public, and there's no charge for it.

Sorry, you've missed this one, and there are no future instances on the schedule yet.
